    Get PDF
With the beginning of the fifth industrial revolution, Artificial Intelligence has changed the nature of work where human needs to be more creative, innovative, and relationship oriented. For a sustainable working environment, the value of emotional and social competencies has increased day by day while Emotional Intelligence (EI) has captured as a pinnacle in Human Resource Development literature. The study focused on the significance of Emotional Intelligence from an occupational perspective.  The findings reveal why an organization should care about the emotional intelligence of its employees. Since an organization can attain a competitive advantage through the people, hence Emotional intelligence could make a difference from an average performer to high-value performer.  In this study, the role of Emotional Intelligence has critically analyzed with the evidence of empirical researches published in peer-reviewed journals.  The study underlines the essentials of EI in job performance, job satisfaction, Organization citizenship behavior, leadership effectiveness, Team Management, Work-life balance and Employee wellbeing. From the Human Resource Development perspective, organization should emphasize on developing Emotional Intelligence of its employees to make them productive, satisfied and committed for achieving organization’s goals and maintaining better working environment. Neighbor Adjacency based Hole Detection Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

    Get PDF
AbstractCoverage and communication holes may appear in sensor networks due to limited battery life, presence of obstacles and physical destruction of nodes. These holes have a negative impact on the network performance. In order to ensure that optimum area in sensing field is covered by sensors, coverage holes must be detected. This paper proposes an adaptive routing algorithm based on neighbor adjacency for detecting coverage holes in sensor networks. Proposed algorithm can compute location of holes in the network from remote locations based on hop count measure computed from network statistics. Simulation results show that algorithm gives better performance in terms of end to end delay and packet delivery fraction as compared to previous works. Simplicity and efficiency are the key features that distinguish this work from existing routing and hole detection schemes

Partition asymptotics; zeros of zeta functions; and Apéry-like numbers

PART I G. H. Hardy and S. Ramanujan established an asymptotic formula for the number of unrestricted partitions of a positive integer, and claimed a similar asymptotic formula for the number of partitions into perfect kth powers, which was later proved by E. M. Wright. Recently, R. C. Vaughan provided a simpler asymptotic formula in the case k = 2. In the first part of the thesis, we study the number of partitions into parts from a specific set Ak(a0; b0) :={mk : m 2 N;m _ a0 (mod b0)}, for fixed positive integers k, a0; and b0. Using the Hardy-Littlewood circle method, we give an asymptotic formula for the number of such partitions, thus generalizing the aforementioned results of Wright and Vaughan. We also consider the parity problem for such partitions and prove that the number of such partitions is even (odd) infinitely often, which generalizes O. Kolberg's theorem for the ordinary partition function. This material builds on the joint work with B. C. Berndt and A. Zaharescu. PART II The Riemann Hypothesis implies that the zeros of all the derivatives of the Riemann-_ function lie on the critical line. Results on the proportion of zeros on the critical line of derivatives of _(s) have been investigated before by B. Conrey, and I. Rezvyakova. The percentage of zeros of _(k)(s) on the critical line approaches 100% percent as k increases. The second part of this thesis builds on the joint work with S. Chaubey, N. Robles, and A. Zaharescu. We study the zeros of combinations of derivatives of _(s). Although such combinations do not always have all their zeros on the critical line, we show that the proportion of zeros on the critical line still tends to 1. PART III The third part of this thesis focuses on the work on Apéry-like numbers joint with Armin Straub. In 1982, Gessel showed that the Apéry numbers associated to the irrationality of _(3) satisfy Lucas congruences. Our main result is to prove corresponding congruences for all known sporadic Apéry-like sequences. In several cases, we are able to employ approaches due to McIntosh, Samol-van Straten and Rowland-Yassawi to establish these congruences. However, for the sequences labeled s18 and (_) we require a finer analysis. As an application, we investigate modulo which numbers these sequences are periodic. In particular, we show that the Almkvist-Zudilin numbers are periodic modulo 8, a special property which they share with the Apéry numbers. We also investigate primes which do not divide any term of a given Apéry -like sequence

Background: The nonsteroidal contraceptive centchroman is manufactured in India. It was included in family welfare programme in April 2016 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. However, national statistics indicated its low utilization at all levels of healthcare. Objective was to identify the reasons for underutilization of centchroman in the family planning clinic, and in the postpartum period, and to implement corrective measures to improve its utilization at a tertiary hospital. Methods: The study was conducted in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at a tertiary care hospital from September 2019 to January 2022. A quality improvement action team was constituted to undertake root cause analysis. Important corrective factors were insufficient focused counselling for centchroman as contraceptive, insufficient sensitization of doctors and nurses, inconsistent supply of tablets, lack of clarity about side effects of centchroman among healthcare workers. Tablets were not readily available to postpartum women at home, which was also a contributing factor. There were the following changes implemented: sensitization of the healthcare workers, daily focused FP counselling of women in outpatient clinics and postnatal wards, and measures to ensure a continuous supply of tablets. At discharge, eligible postpartum women were given a three-month supply of tablets for ready access. ASHA (accredited social health activist) workers who are engaged in other governmental health initiatives were included in the loop to maintain contact and supply tablets to women initiated on centchroman. Results: Contraceptive utilization increased from 0.5-0.7% at beginning of the study to 29% by incorporating the solutions. Failure of contraception occurred in one user. Pearl index for centchroman in our study was 0.22%.Conclusions: Simple, practical solutions identified through quality improvement initiatives resulted in improved coverage and utilization of contraceptive. This study can be an important example for problem solving of challenges in low resource settings

Relationship between grey scale sonographic grades of fatty liver and shear wave elastographic values: an observational study

Background: Due to the growing public health menace of metabolic syndrome, the Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) has been recording a burgeoning global rise. The prognosis of NAFLD is largely depends upon its histological stage. Simple steatosis has a fairer prognosis, while Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) has a poorer prognosis with tendency to progression into fibrosis and end stage liver disease. Until now, the diagnosis of varying grades of NAFLD has been dependent upon liver biopsy, which is indisputably the most reliable tool to distinguish between simple steatosis, steatohepatitis, and end stage liver disease. The sonographic grading of NAFLD is primarily based on subjective findings, the results of which may vary between different observers. Hence, there is a need to identify a reliable non-invasive objective substitute. To compare the sonographic grades of fatty liver on gray scale with liver stiffness (Kpa) values of shear wave elastography. Also, an attempt to establish objective criteria for grading of fatty liver with improved accuracy and increased specificity. Methods: Cross sectional, observational study comprising of 240 adults referred for routine abdominal sonography. All patient underwent gray scale sonography and shear wave elastography and results were analysed. Results: A significant positive correlation was found between various grades of NAFLD as assessed subjectively on grey scale sonography to the liver stiffness in kilopascal (Kpa) using shear wave elastography. Conclusions: Shear wave elastography being an objective imaging tool is a reliable modality compared to grey scale sonography in diagnosis of NAFLD and has the capacity to carry out quantitative evaluation of liver parenchyma in vivo

Impaired regeneration in LGMD2A supported by increased Pax7 positive satellite cell content and muscle specific microRNA dysregulation

Introduction—Recent in vitro studies suggest that CAPN3 deficiency leads initially to accelerated myofiber formation followed by depletion of satellite cells (SC). In normal muscle, upregulation of miR-1 and miR-206 facilitates transition from proliferating SCs to differentiating myogenic progenitors. Methods—We examined the histopathological stages, Pax7 SC content, and muscle specific microRNA expression in biopsy specimens from well-characterized LGMD 2A patients to gain insight into disease pathogenesis. Results—Three distinct stages of pathological changes were identified that represented the continuum of the dystrophic process from prominent inflammation with necrosis and regeneration to prominent fibrosis, which correlated with age and disease duration. Pax7-positive SCs were highest in fibrotic group and correlated with down-regulation of miR-1, miR-133a, and miR-206. Conclusions—These observations, and other published reports, are consistent with microRNA dysregulation leading to inability of Pax7-positive SCs to transit from proliferation to differentiation. This results in impaired regeneration and fibrosis. This work was supported by NIH NIAMS U54 AR050733-05, Jesse’s Journey, and the muscular Dystrophy Associatio

Juxtaposing BTE and ATE – on the role of the European insurance industry in funding civil litigation

One of the ways in which legal services are financed, and indeed shaped, is through private insurance arrangement. Two contrasting types of legal expenses insurance contracts (LEI) seem to dominate in Europe: before the event (BTE) and after the event (ATE) legal expenses insurance. Notwithstanding institutional differences between different legal systems, BTE and ATE insurance arrangements may be instrumental if government policy is geared towards strengthening a market-oriented system of financing access to justice for individuals and business. At the same time, emphasizing the role of a private industry as a keeper of the gates to justice raises issues of accountability and transparency, not readily reconcilable with demands of competition. Moreover, multiple actors (clients, lawyers, courts, insurers) are involved, causing behavioural dynamics which are not easily predicted or influenced. Against this background, this paper looks into BTE and ATE arrangements by analysing the particularities of BTE and ATE arrangements currently available in some European jurisdictions and by painting a picture of their respective markets and legal contexts. This allows for some reflection on the performance of BTE and ATE providers as both financiers and keepers. Two issues emerge from the analysis that are worthy of some further reflection. Firstly, there is the problematic long-term sustainability of some ATE products. Secondly, the challenges faced by policymakers that would like to nudge consumers into voluntarily taking out BTE LEI
